Relocating to Granville Ohio

Granville is located in Central Ohio about 30 minutes east of downtown Columbus. It's bordered by Newark, Hebron, Alexandria, and Johnstown. This quaint village sits in a rural area of rolling hills about 35 miles east of Columbus and 7 miles west of Newark, the county seat. It's home to Denison University and features several historical buildings including the Greek Revival structures like the Avery Downer House, St. Luke's Episcopal Church and several others. Many are featured in the national Register of Historic Places including the Buxton Inn, the Granville Inn, the Bancroft house, and the Bryn Du Mansion.

Granville Schools

Granville's public schools are operated by the Granville Exempted Village School System, which includes the Granville high school, middle school, intermediate school, and elementary schools. This small district serves several hundred students with the graduating class of about 250. The Granville Christian Academy serves grades kindergarten through 12th with several private preschools also available.

Most predominantly is the Denison University overlooking the village founded in 1831. It was originally the Granville Theological and Literary Seminary but today Denison is a private, residential, nonsectarian liberal arts college with a student body of about 2100 and a faculty of 200.

Alligator Mound

Even though it's a small town, Granville is rich in history with cultural attractions, fantastic restaurants, and unique shopping. Alligator Mound is one of the most prominent landmarks in town located at the end of Bryn Du Drive located on top of a bluff overlooking Raccoon Creek Valley. It was one of two great animal effigy mounds built by Ohio's prehistoric people. This giant earthen sculpture of a four-footed animal with a rounded head and long, curving tail has been named Alligator Mound approximately 250 feet long and 76 feet wide.

Relocating to GravilleThe Bryn Du Mansion is another popular local landmark situated on a 52-acre estate on the east side of town. With a colorful history and seven buildings covering over 32 acres of front level lawn and a 7200 square-foot field house, this estate is currently used for community activities and special events, however, it is definitely something not to miss when touring the town.

Shopping is another popular pastime for folks and guests of Granville. From art galleries to furniture companies, housewares, stationery, floral, bookstores, garden stores and pet stores, most residents have everything they need or want right in downtown.

Granville is also home to several great restaurants including locally sourced salads and sandwiches at Alfie's Wholesome Food, a delicious burger at Broadway Pub, get your morning latte at River Road Coffeehouse, grab a slice of pizza at Donato's pizza or take home something sweet from Goumas Candyland.
