Gahanna History

Gahanna is situated in Northeast Franklin County and was founded along the Big Walnut Creek in 1849. Founder John Clark named to the property after the Gahanna Plantation, a Native American word for three creeks joining into one. Gahanna maintained a rivalry with the sister village of Bridgeport located across the Granville Street from downtown Gahanna and also along the river. The two villages eventually put their differences aside and merged into one adopting the name Gahanna as there was already a Bridgeport in Ohio. The village was incorporated in 1881.
